POKALDE AND LOBUCHE EAST PEAKS ITINERARY

This trip is a great opportunity to climb two peaks in one three week trip. The trip is in the famous Everest region of Nepal. Climbing Pokalde at 5806m is great acclimatisation before continuing on to Lobuche East, the harder climb taking you to 6119m.

Neither peak are particularly technical and the group will be fully supported by top class climbing Sherpas from the region.

Day 1: Depart home country

Day 2: Arrive Kathmandu (1,350m)

The visa process in the air terminal takes around 15 minutes and after that you will be met outside the air terminal. Transport will be arranged to take you through Kathmandu to your hotel. This takes around 30 minutes. You can then unwind from your journey and meet your group.

Day 3: Kathmandu

Today is day of sight seeing and purchasing any equipment needed. Equipment will be checked and there will be a briefing for the trek ahead.

Day 4: Kathmandu. Flight to Lukla (2840m) – Trek to Monjo

The flight to Lukla is about 45 minutes and is typically first thing in the morning. The flight will permit you stunning views of the immeasurable Himalayan mountain range. On entry in Lukla you will have a casual couple of hours before starting the first phase of the trek.

Day 5 and 6: Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

We either spend the day acclimatising by hiking to Thame or visiting Khunde. Namche Bazaar is the main centre of the Everest (Khumbu) region and has government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery and a colourful market each Friday evening and Saturday.

Day 7: Debuche

After breakfast in Namche, we start our trek towards Debuche enjoying superb views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. Our trek is overlooking magnificent views of the great Himalaya. Along the way you can spot wild life like pheasant, musk deer, or a herd of Himalayan Thar. The path eventually reaches Sansa which is the major trail junction to Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp, then through the DudhKosi gorge to Tengboche Monastery on one of the most beautiful valley walks on Earth. The monastery is the home of the Rimpoche of Tengboche. After our visit, descend to our lodge in Debuche.

Day 8: Dingboche (4,360 m)

From here onwards the walk is fairly moderate as we enter the Imja Valley. The valley ahead will begin to open up as we approach the confluence of the Lobuche River, we descend into the river and begin the last and steepest climb of the day up to Dingboche On arrival in Dingboche, we enjoy the beautiful array of fields enclosed by stone walls to protect the barley, buckwheat and potatoes from the cold winds and grazing animals.

Day: 9 Dingboche (4,360 m)

We spend our second day of acclimatization at Dingboche. A refreshing breakfast while admiring Ama Dablam (6856m/ 22493 ft) to the south is really fantastic. To better appreciate Mt Ama Dablam, Mt Lhotse and numerous other peaks visible from Dingboche, we climb the ridge to the north behind the village. This will be an ideal acclimatizing excursion.

Day 10: Pokalde Base Camp (4,900m)

Today the climbing trail at first brings us at Kongma La Pass from where we can enjoy the views of the wide basin dotted with frozen lakes. The majestic view of Pokalde Peak from the high pass is unavoidable. The forthcoming climbing trail also rewards us with views of Cholatse, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam and several other peaks in the Khumbu region.

Day 11: Pokalde High Camp (5,400m)

We'll head on to the High camp from where we start our climb. Firstly the path leads up beyond base camp for several hundred meters before striking off left up the steep hillside. Initially sandy, the path soon turns to grass before becoming boulder strewn. As you climb the hill, you will see that the slope narrows and the path enter a steep rock channel nearby where we'll overnight in tents.

Day 12: Summit Pokalde (5806m) – Khongmala Pass – Lobuche (4,950m)

The climbing trail ultimately reaches the narrow rocky summit Pokalde Peak. Upon summiting Pokalde Peak, we can observe the most breathtaking views of the world's highest mountains which include the views of Mt Makalu, Ama Dablam, Pumori, and a number of other giant peaks in the Khumbu region.

Day 13: Extra day

Day 14: Lobuche Base Camp – short day (5364 m)

After walking some distance on a relatively flatter plane, the path to the Lobuche Base Camp gets steeper and rocky. We move forward along the Lobuche Glacier while enjoying great views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Pokalde, Thamserku, and Kantega,

Day 15: Lobuche High Camp (5,400m)

From Base Camp we continue on a rocky moraine path to reach the high camp. Upon reaching the high camp, we set up camp, have lunch and rest.

Day 16: Summit Lobuche – Pheriche (6119m)

Today is our day for the summit. We wake up very early at around 2 am, eat breakfast and start early. Lobuche East offers more fabulous views of the mountains than other trekking peaks. Once upon the Lobuche summit, you would enjoy magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Pumori, and many more. There's time at the summit for taking pictures, before returning to High Camp again.

Day 17: Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

The trail descends steeply downward so we need to walk slowly over the rocky terrain. After crossing the bridges over the fast flowing DudhKoshi and its tributaries the trail becomes more level and natural. Today we start to get warmed up by the light breeze and warmer lower mountain air.

Day 18: Monjo/Phakding

Day 19: Lukla (2,800m)

The trail descends to Lukla for the night.

Day 20: Arrive Kathmandu

We fly back to Kathmandu where you can rest and relax throughout the day at the hotel.

Day 21: Kathmandu

If you want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu today our guides can help you with both souvenir shopping or sightseeing before a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the trip.

Day 22: Depart Kathmandu – Home Country

Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight we will drop you at the airport and wish you well on your travels home.

Accommodation will be a mix of lodges on the trek and camping on the mountains
