Kalsang was born in Namche Bazaar, a small village in the Everest region of Nepal, home of the famous climbing Sherpas. He has worked for many years as a climbing Sherpa guide in the Nepal and Tibet Himalayas on numerous treks and expeditions and set up The Walking and Climbing Company with Susie Sherpa Baer in 1999.

Since then, their range of adventure holidays has widened as demand has increased, enabling others to see and experience the truly astounding Himalayan mountain range and to share Kalsang's passion for the region in which he grew up.

High Staffing Levels

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

  • Altitude sickness can affect even the most physically fit person.

  • If you needed to go down to a lower altitude or go at a different pace to the rest of the group, then higher staffing levels allows this. It means you are taken care of and also doesn't mean the whole group have to go down if someone is unwell.

  • Mountains are a challenging place so higher staffing levels increases the success as well as the quality of care for each individual.

Highly Qualified and Experienced Staff

Every trip is either lead by one of the company directors - Kalsang Sherpa or another of his highly experienced and qualified leaders, such as Tendi Sherpa.

Highly Personalised Experience

Why is this important?

No Hidden Costs

Some companies are not transparent and sell their adventure travel trips for a much cheaper price. However, there is always a catch to it. Look for the hidden costs that will emerge such as essential food and equipment, hotel cost, airport transfers, insurance, permits, guide to client ratio, lack of porters, etc. Our goal is to be up front and transparent so you can focus on the experience and leave all the planning to us.

Previous feedback from trips

"Quite simply, if you are planning a trip to Nepal, Tibet or Bhutan, book through the Walking and Climbing Company. I can't recommend Susie and Kalsang highly enough for the planning of my trip, value for money, and being well looked after with impeccable customer support from initial contact to getting on the plane back home from Nepal (March / April 2016).

The trip was amazing, a few days in the most relaxing part of Kathmandu (Boudhanath) a long journey up to Everest region for 10 days trekking, and then back to Boudhanath.

My guide Kanchha was there to meet me at the airport and then looked after me in a way I simply cannot fault until dropping me back off at the airport at the end of my trip. He had amazing knowledge of the mountains, kept me 100% safe at all times, and I was shown the most amazing hospitality throughout my trip of a lifetime. 10 out of 10."

"Susie and Kalsang Sherpa Baer made the impossible possible for me! I've never had the confidence to do a trek in the Himalayas because of various limitations to my physical abilities and the solution was to do the trek to the beautiful Gosain Kunda Lakes in the Langtang Region of Nepal on Horseback!! What an amazing experience I've shared and the care and attention to the details so that I succeeded in my goal excelled all my expectations - the support in my preparation beforehand and then the encouragement whilst there was kind, informative and professional. Any one who dreams of doing a trek and lacks the confidence to give it a go, should use The Walking and Climbing Company. With heartfelt thanks for a life affirming experience"
