If you haven't visited Tibet before then this is a fabulous opportunity to experience a wonderful country with the most stunning landscape and to be amongst the Tibetan people is a treat. Trekking to Kailash is a hugely significant pilgrimage for Buddhists, Hindus and people from other faiths. The trek around Kailash is part of a journey towards enlightenment and is said to cleanse the sins of a lifetime. Mount Kailash is close to the source of four main rivers of the Indian sub continent and is the highest peak in the Gangdise mountain range at over 6,600 metres. It is a stunningly beautiful mountain. You will also visit Lake Manasarovar one of the highest fresh water lakes in the world and have time in the city of Lhasa.

This wonderful adventure will allow you to immerse yourself in the Tibetan culture. You will cover a large area of Tibet as well as completing the superb trek (Kora) around Mount Kailash. The trip starts and ends in Nepal the capital of Kathmandu which many find a fun and interesting place to spend some time in, whilst we arrange the Tibet visas. The spirituality of the Tibetan and Nepalese people has a lasting impact on those visiting this ancient culture for its purity, simplicity and kindness.

Day 1: Depart home country

Day 2 & 3: Kathmandu – visa process

Day 04: Flight to Lhasa, transfer to the town (3650m/60km). Hotel accommodation or similar BB

You will be warmly welcomed by our Tibetan guide and driver who will accompany you to the holy city of Lhasa along with views of Bharmaputra, known as Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibetan and a giant stone carved Buddha with more than a thousand years of history.

Day 05: Lhasa sightseeing: Potala, Jokhang temple and Bharkor. Hotel accommodation or similar on BB

Sightseeing today includes Potala Palace, the winter Palace of the Dalai Lama, Jokhang temple, the oldest and most sacred temple of Tibet, Bharkor, the ancient market of Lhasa and the oldest and sacred pilgrimage path in Lhasa.

Day 06: Lhasa sightseeing: Drepung & Sera monasteries. Hotel accommodation or similar on BB

Sightseeing today includes the Drepung monastery, the largest monastery in Tibet and one of the six biggest monasteries of the Gelukpa sect in Tibetan Bhuddhism. Also the Sera monastery, the second largest monastery of Tibet with an opportunity to watch the monks debating in the monastery.

Day 07: Drive Lhasa-Yamdrok lake-Gyantse-Shigatse. (3900m/ 370Km) Hotel accommodation on B.B

Early morning start for your tour today with a drive towards Gyangtse through 3 big mountain passes, Kampa La, Karo La, Simila respectively. Karola is the highest pass among them which is over 5000mts with it's most beautiful glaciers and the gorgeous coral coloured Yamdrok lake seen from the top of the Kampala pass. Visit Palchoe monastery and Kubum Pagoda stupa and then continue your journey to Shigatse.

Day 08: Shigatse-Sakya (4050m/150km). Hotel accommodation on BB

Morning visit to Tashi Lhunpo monastery which is the seat of the successive Penchen Lama and one of the biggest monasteries in the Tsang region in western Tibet. After Shigatse a drive through Tsola pass, 4500mts and afternoon visit to Sakya monastery which is the mother monastery of the Sakyapa school in Tibetan Buddhism. There is a great Buddhist library in Sakya monastery which contains thousands of Buddhist scriptures.

Day 09 : Drive Sakya-Saga-Drongba county (4650m/485km). Local Hotel on BB

Drive to Saga and Drongba county via Ngamring la 4650mts, with views of the beautiful Ngamring lake before reaching Ngamring county and some lovely villages on the way. You will drive through a vast grassland which is a big nomadic area where you will see lots of Yak and Sheep. Even though the road condition is good and it will take you around 8 hours to get there as there is a speed limit.

Day 10: Drive Drongba-Mansarovar lake-Chiu Gompa (4590m/340km) Guest house in Chiu on BB

By the South road we join the high Tibetan plateau at more than 4000m in altitude, between Himalaya and Brahmaputra (Tsangpo). Along the way there are a numbers of nomad camps, herds of Kyangs (wild donkeys), gazelles and antelopes, and sometimes a mob of jackals howling with the fall of the night or even a lonely wolf. We follow the road towards Kailash in breathtaking landscapes with some beautiful nomad camps and many animals on the grass lands. Reaching Lake Manasarovar and Kailash there is amazing landscape and the view from the point called Chaktsalkang where we can first see the beautiful Lake Manasarovar and Mt Kailash in the distance. Enjoy a short walk along the lake Manasarovar, visiting Chiu Gompa and enjoy the most beautiful view of Mt. Kailash from the monastery. Our guide and driver will prepare and organize the porters or Yak for your Kailash trek.

Day 11: Drive directly to Tarpoche and trek to Dhiraphuk (5210m/18km) Lodge on BB

Today is the first day of your Kailash Kora which is totally around 53 km. You start your Kora from Darchen and after 2 hours walk you will face Darpo Che where there is a huge prayer flag pole which is annually replaced by the pilgrimages on 15th of fourth Lunar month, known as Saga Dawa festival as well as Trulku monastery on your left side up on the hill. You can also see ibex and blue sheep running in the rocky hillside while you are walking and then you will reach Dhira Phuk which was a monastery before but nowadays you can only see the ruins as the monastery was destroyed in the cultural revolution.

Day 12: Trek to Zutrul Phuk(4810mts) via crossing Drolma la pass(5200m/15km). Lodge on BB

Today is the second of your Kailash Kora which is indeed the hardest day of your three day trek. You will have to climb up to the top of Drolma La pass which is more than 5000mt. There will be a steep hike to get to the top of Drolma La pass from Dhira Phuk and then pretty steep downhill with a rocky path all the way to the valley. On the right side of the downhill path, there is a small lake called Thuje Lake, meaning compassionate lake. Zutrul Phuk was the cave where Mila Repa and Nagro Bonchung debated for their religion sects and nowadays is a small monastery.

Day 13: Trek to Dharchen and then drive to Manasarovar 4590m/50km. Guest house on BB

Today is the easiest and last day of your Kailash kora as you will trek down in the valley with beautiful distant scenery of Rakshas Tal lake. From here you leave your Yak men and Yak and travel by jeep. You will meet your drivers and continue your tour to Lake Manasarovar. Rest and free afternoon around the lake.

Day 14: Manasarovar-Drongpa-Saga, (4640m/435km) Guest house on BB

Seeing the vastness of the Changtang Tibetan plateau shows the enormity of the Tibetan space and today you may well see herds of gazelles or Kyang, wild donkeys along the way.

Day 15: Drive Saga-Shigatse (3900m/ 440km) Hotel accommodation on B.B

Today you will drive along the vast grasslands, viewing the beautiful mountain range, passing Tibetan nomadic and farmers villages.

Day 16: Drive from Shigatse to Lhasa (3650mts/430km) Hotel accommodation or similar on BB

An early morning start with a drive along the Bharmaputra river with a landscape of sandy hills, villages, and Rulak Yungdrung ling at the other side of the river. You will have lunch in a small town called Nyenmo which is the border point between Shigatse and Lhasa. Free afternoon for shopping.

Day 17: Drive to Lhasa airport. (3600m/60km) Fly to Kathmandu. Hotel accommodation

Day 18: Depart Kathmandu – Home Country
