Trekking in Bhutan is a wonderful experience and this trek is at a moderate level over about 6 days. The trek starts at Khoma (near Thimphu) and ends in Chamgang (Thimphu), where there are many beautiful high altitude lakes.

Day 1: Depart home country

Day 2: Arrive Kathmandu

Day 3: Kathmandu

Day 4: Flight to Paro (2200m)

You will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. After lunch, you will drive to the ruins of Drukgyel dzong, which means “The Victorious Druk”. Then you will visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred monasteries. Hotel stay.

Day 5: Paro sightseeing - Thimphu (2350m)

Excursion to Taktsang Monastery, or “The Tiger’s Nest”, which clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff. You will visit Rimpung dzong and the Ta dzong, an ancient watchtower. You will also visit the National Museum of Bhutan. Drive to and hotel stay in Thimphu.

Day 6: Khoma (start of trek) – Geynikha (2950m)

The walk will take you through terraced paddy fields and conifer forests to the Geynikha settlement. The route then descends to a Chorten that marks a camping place alongside of a stream.

Day 7: Geynikha - Gur (3290m)

Crossing a suspension bridge, the trail heads west then climbs steeply towards the south to a rock platform and crest at 3200m. A further walk will take you to a camp in a forest clearing.

Day 8: Gur – Labatamba (4300m)

You will cross the pass at 4240m for a spectacular view of Dagala village. You will pass though several herders camps and reach the foot of Labatamba valley, near Utso Lake, where plenty of Golden Trout flourish. Camp.

Day 9: Labatamba – Panka (4000m)

The trail will climb along the west side of the lake to the saddle at 4500m, where you will have great mountain views. There is a steep descent to another lake at 4350m, a valley and then to Panka where you will camp.

Day 10: Panka – Talakha (3080m)

The route will take you north to cross a pass at 4000m and then to climb alongside of the ridge to a crest at 4270m. From here, there is a view of the Dagala range and a view of Thimphu. There is a long descent through forests to the Goemba and village of Talakha. Camp.

Day 11: Talakha – Chamgang (2640m) (end of trek) - Thimphu (2350m)

There will be a steep trail to Chamgang from where you will drive to Thimphu. After lunch, you are free to rest and stroll around the town. Hotel stay.

Day 12: Thimphu Sightseeing

You will visit the National Library, the Painting School and the National Institute of Traditional Medicine. There will be a visit to the Simtokha dzong, the oldest dzong in Bhutan, then the National Memorial Chorten, a monument dedicated to the third King of Bhutan. You will then visit the Handicrafts Emporium, the Tashichho dzong or the “Fortress of the Glorious Religion”. The evening will be free for leisure and shopping. Hotel stay.

Day 13: Thimphu – Punakha (1200m) – Wangdi Phodrang (1350m)

Today you will drive to Punakha via Dochula pass, where, if the weather is clear, you will stop to view the Higher Himalayas. In Punakha, you will visit Punakha dzong, named Druk Pungthang Dechen Phodrang (“Palace of Great Happiness”). After Lunch, you will drive to Wangdi Phodrang, stopping enroute to view Chimi Lhakhang, or the “Temple of Fertility”. You will finally stop to see Wangdi Phodrang dzong in the valley. Hotel stay.

Day 14: Wangdi Phodrang - Thimphu (2350m)

After breakfast, you will drive to Thimphu. After lunch, you will have time for shopping and photography in the town. Hotel stay.

Day 15: Fly Bhutan to Kathmandu

Day 16: Kathmandu

Day 17: Fly to home country
