THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S AWARD EXPEDITION

This 3 week expedition starts with some time in Kathmandu to sight see and explore this interesting and exciting city. There are numerous things to do including the Monkey Temple, the Kings Palace and numerous temples and monasteries. This also allows time to rest following the journey to Nepal and purchase supplies and equipment as necessary.

The trek starts following a short flight over the Himalayas to the village of Lukla. This gives the most amazing insight into the vastness of this impressive mountain range.

The group will trek slowly up to Namche Bazaar where the Sherpa people originate from and the main route into the Everest region. Time will be needed here for acclimatisation and Everest can be seen amongst many other famous mountains in this range. The trek continues on to Everest Base Camp passing through villages with the opportunity to interact with the locals and experience the culture of these fascinating mountain people.

There are monasteries along the way and if desired time can be taken to meet the monks residing there. It is recommended that the Base Camp group visit Kalapathar for the most magnificent views of Mount Everest as well as continuing in to Base Camp itself.

This trek is a challenge reaching an altitude of 17,000 feet and requires a reasonable level of fitness; it will be exciting as well as educational for the students and an adventure of a lifetime to experience
