This trip lasts three weeks and includes time in the fascinating city of Kathmandu on the first day before flying to Lukla, deep in the Himalayas. You will visit the stunning Everest region and see some of the most famous mountains in the area including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and Ama Dablam.

The trip involves gentle walking with Sherpa Guides and porters, staying in lodges along the way. The people of this region are primarily Buddhist and being part of their world is an inspiring and thought provoking experience. There are numerous monasteries along the route and time can be spent meditating, observing the lifestyle of the monks and interacting with these gentle humble people. There is flexibility in the number of visits to monasteries you undertake depending on your interest.

This walk is a very peaceful experience in warm sunny weather at a relaxed pace with wonderful people who are delightful to be with. A great way to relax and 'switch off'.

Day 1: Depart home country

Day 2:Arrive Kathmandu

You will be met at the airport in Kathmandu by your guides before a 30 minute drive to your hotel. There will then be time to relax and familiarise yourself with the area as well as meet the other members of your group.

Day 3: Kathmandu – rest, sight seeing visits, check equipment

There is a monastery very close to the hotel where you can join the monks early in the morning for their prayer and meditation if you wish. Although it's an early start it is very well worth it.

Day 4: Fly to Lukla, trek to Monjo

The Lukla flight is about 45 minutes and offers stunning views of the vast Himalayan mountain range. In Lukla you will have a relaxed couple of hours before the first stage of the trek. You will overnight in Monjo village beside the Dudh Kosi River.

Day 5: Trek from Monjo to Namche Bazaar

On this slightly more challenging day, as you acclimatise, you will follow the trail alongside the Dudh Kosi River, you pass through fragrant forest and have the opportunity to catch a first glimpse of Everest as well as the possibility of spotting a diversity of native plants and wildlife. Your second overnight stop is Namche Bazaar, the heart of the Sherpa community and entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park.

Day 6: Namche Bazaar rest day, visit army camp and view Everest

This acclimatisation day provides the opportunity to explore the delights of this vibrant, prosperous village. There is a lovely old monastery looked after by one monk. It is a treat to spend time with him to meditate, talk or just be with him. He is kind, gentle and wise in his solitary duties at the monastery. You may wish to visit the Sherpa Culture Museum to learn about the history of Namche Bazaar and the Himalaya, or simply relax, enjoy the cafes, markets and local shops while soaking up the atmosphere. A walk to the Everest View hotel above the village provides superb views of the Khumbu region and Everest itself; it's up to you how you'd like to spend this day.

Day 7: Everest View hotel, Khumjung and Kunde

After visiting the Everest view hotel and enjoying the wonderful views from the balcony the route continues to Khumjung a traditional village considered a focal point by local Buddhists because of its' well-known monastery. Interestingly, this monastery is home to an alleged yeti scalp from the head of a yeti befriended by a local Lama many centuries ago. You'll then trek onto the beautiful village of Khunde where there is a very special monastery; having time with the monks here is a treat.

Day 8-12: Thamo monastery (3440m)

Trekking on today to Thamo to stay at the nun's monastery. This was founded by Tibetan nuns who fled from Tibet over the Nangpa La pass to the quiet Thame Valley. Whilst here you can immerse yourself in their daily meditation and rituals. Many feel very privileged to spend time with these peaceful and spiritual people. The area provides the possibility of seeing wildlife such as Musk deer and the national bird of Nepal, the Danphe pheasant and you can also take some walks and visit the nearby village.

Day 13-14: Lauwdo

Leaving Thamo you'll trek to Lawudo – this wonderful monastery is directed by the Lama Zopa Rinpoche. It is a very special place to visit and there will be time to enjoy this magical and intensely quiet and remote place.

Day 15: Thame – Namche Bazaar

Trek on to Thame village with the option to visit the main monastery in Thame, then back to Namche Bazaar, by now a familiar sight. The stunning views from here of Everest and the huge Himalayan mountain range stretching as far as the eye can see is a great memory for you to take away.

Day 16: Namche Bazaar

A day to relax and enjoy the village, its cafes, a hot shower and local shops.

Day 17: Phakding From Namche

The trail takes you downhill following the Dudh Koshi river to Phakding village for the night.

Day 18: Lukla

This is your last day of trekking as you descend to the village of Lukla. It is fun returning to Lukla and having time to enjoy a celebratory meal with the local staff from your trip before they return to their families.

Day 19: Fly to Kathmandu

From Lukla you will take the 45 minute flight back to the city of Kathmandu. Arriving back into the midst of a bustling city may feel a little strange after the peace and slower pace of the rural mountains of Nepal. There is time to rest and relax, enjoy the hotel, sight see, shop and whatever else you wish to do prior to leaving Nepal.

Day 20: Kathmandu

A day to relax and enjoy Kathmandu

Day 21: Depart Kathmandu
